Post-Operative
SIMPLE STEPS
1) Keep it clean!
- With each diaper change, gently wipe away any stool seen. Use warm water. Stick with sponge baths until healed. Do not use baby wipes.
2) The Cover
- When you change the diaper, a gauze will be around the head of the penis, let it fall off on its own. When it falls off, use petroleum jelly after each diaper change.
- If the gauze has not fallen off, soak with warm water and remove gently after 24 hours
- Use petroleum jelly on head of penis for approximately 2-3 days after procedure to prevent adhesions with diaper.
3) Happy versus Worry
Normal Findings
- Red, Bruised or swollen appearance in first few days
- Small amounts of blood in diaper
- Yellow oozing or scabbing = healing
Call Physician or Go to ER
- Persistent bleeding from wound
- Fevers - Rectal Temperature > 100.4F or 38C - GO TO ER!
- Crusty fluid-filled sores
- Trouble Urinating
- Redness or swelling that worsens after 5 days
